This was our cabin when I was growing up. My grandad and dad built this. When I'm stressed and wishing for peace and quiet... this is where my mind and heart go. (I'd go there right now if I could do it without driving the road up there! :) )
Jean, For me the drive up just heightened the impact of going to Mineral King. Winding up through the chapparel, into the oaks, on into the pines, until Sawtooth peaked through the trees, and finally around the last bend by the aspens and the old dump.
Thank you for reminding me. I haven't been in years and I now will go again.
I would really love to go up there. As a kid I loved the ride up (in the back of my dad's pick-up... no seat belts). As I've gotten older I don't take steep/winding roads very well. Actually, a family has offered us the use of their cabin if we ever wanted to go up there. I may eventually get my nerve up and GO!
